Saturday Mornin’ Biscuits

I don’t know about you but for me Saturday morning has always been code for biscuits and gravy!

This is a meal that holds such sweet memories for me. Growing up we had our fair share of biscuits and gravy. In fact my first time to practice being a nurse was when mom sliced her hand trying to cut apart frozen biscuits! She passed out then after I knew she was okay, I fell down in a seizure. Don’t worry that was apparently just a phase!

We also had dear friends growing up who poured into my siblings and I over an early morning breakfast of biscuits and gravy. In fact these are the same friends who came to our rescue after the whole frozen biscuit incident.

When it came my time to make biscuits for my family, you bet I didn’t use frozen biscuits! That being said I’m not one to just partially take on a task, hence why the thought of having beautiful flowerbeds led to having a flower farm. I decided I must learn to make amazing biscuits from scratch!

The only way to learn how to cook from scratch is from the experts right? So for our 5th Anniversary my sweet husband gifted me the America’s Test Kitchen 20th Anniversary CookBook! My husband’s first request was of course, biscuits and gravy. I was so proud of these biscuits! They had flaky layers and tasted absolutely wonderful!! You can find this recipe here:

My Second recipe came from my sweet Great-Grandma Essie’s 1970 Better Homes and Gardens CookBook. She said to me “Chelsea take that cook book. It has better recipes.” Little did I know this cookbook not only held amazing recipes but handwritten recipes from her and my Great-Great-Grandma Burton. The first recipe we tried of course was the Baking-Powder Biscuits! This was a quick and easy recipe that Jeremy and I could just whip up even with toddlers undertow!

Our last recipe is from the Magnolia Table CookBook, a Christmas present from my husband. (You’re seeing a trend here right?!) Of course the first recipe we tried was JoJo’s Biscuits! These buttermilk biscuits have great layers as well with a sweet crisp outside that has made this recipe our go to since Christmas morning! You can find the recipe here:

I hope these recipes will warm the bellies and hearts of those you love this Saturday mornin’.

From our family to yours!
